#AvsB – #Alpenglow or #Sunset?

Here are two photos of the same subject but with different light and I’d like to ask which one is your favorite, and why. Please vote in the poll then post your reasoning in the comment section.

A few weeks ago I went out to shoot the last sunset of the year. I headed to one of my favorite places to shoot. The sky was clear, the air crisp and cold, the views were fantastic. Plus, with the cold air, the visibility was astonishing.

From Boulevard Park in Bellingham, Wash., you could see Mt. Robie Reid in British Columbia. The added bonus was the beautiful light cast upon it by the setting Sun

2015: A Look Back – My Year in Photos

Well, it’s the end of the year. Which of course means here are my favorite images I shot during 2015. Some were easy to pick, some were not. Some may not be technically perfect, some may not be well composed, some may have crappy lighting, but here are some of my faves of 2015. For more images, visit my gallery 2015: My Year in Photos.

It is hard to pick my favorite photos of 2015, and making it harder is that I like to shoot sports, weddings, portraits, news, and landscapes with equal vigor. When I shoot, I put in all my skill and more effort than required. For me, having my name attached to it means I put my all into it. This is not just a hobby of mine, but a passion. Prints of these or any of my photos are available for purchase. Click on the photo so it can take you to the gallery where you can buy a print of your favorite image.

Grueling Take Down

I like this photos because it shows the moment of impact when the three opposing players tackled the ball carrier. The strength is shown in their arms, the struggle to move the ball up in his face, and the power of the tacklers. It has a face, a moment, framing, and the ball.

During an evening driving around Bellingham, I went to Squalicum Harbor as I liked how the masts of the boats stood against the darker sky. But as I was shooting, the clouds cleared and the setting Sun lit the clouds over the Cascade Mountains on fire. I got about a foot above the water to shoot this.

I was lucky the local clouds cleared.

An Afternoon at Mt. Baker Ski Area: It’s Black & White

Went up on Friday to #OptOutside to the Mt. Baker Ski Area east of Bellingham. Fact is, I needed to feel the crisp cold air in my lungs, view the snow-capped peaks, and hear the crunching of ice and snow underfoot.

Plus, I wanted to get the alpenglow on Mt. Shuksan. It was a beautiful clear day so no clouds in the west could block the light from the setting Sun. A LOT of people were up in the area. I would say most of them weren’t there for the skiing.

In fact, many people were just enjoying the view with some sledding on the slopes of Picture Lake. Just a fun post-Thanksgiving romp in the Pacific Northwest Winter Wonderland.
