Melissa McCarthy in Seattle

On Friday, I photographed the actress, and now fashion designer, Melissa McCarthy at Nordstrom Seattle.  The flagship store hosted the event where she announced her new line: Melissa McCarthy Seven7.

It was a simple assignment from Getty Images: photograph McCarthy posing with fans as well as a few candid photos. Pretty easy.

The session lasted about an hour. Not a lot of time. My assignment required me to shoot, go through images with McCarthy’s rep and only post those they approve, caption, then upload to Getty Images.

Super Fan

It took me less time to shoot, edit, caption, and transmit the images to Getty than it did to drive to downtown Seattle. I was stuck in a traffic jam on I-5 for at least 1/2 an hour. And then my GPS sent me down the wrong road.

Gettin’ Jiggy

Overall the assignment was great. Had a lot of fun, Chelsey from Nordstrom was super helpful, and meeting Ms. McCarthy was wonderful. The only bad thing was that I had to stand on a step-ladder the entire time.

Laughs & Hugs

Why stand on a step-ladder the entire time?

*** TIP:   Well, to get more flattering photos of the more plump subjects, shooting from a higher position forces them to stretch their chins as they look at the camera. This causes the chin and neck to appear thinner, more flattering. Many portrait photographers use this technique.

One of the annoying things, and you get used to it working in entertainment, the handlers kept telling me what to shoot. You just shoot, especially if they are going to have to approve any images. You don’t want to miss a good moment just because someone tells you no.
